Year of Establishment :
The college was founded in 1983 by Somaiya Trust and became the First Engineering College in Maharashtra to get accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation ( New Delhi ) in 1997.
History :
Late Shri Karamshibhai Jethabhai Somaiya the founder of Somaiya Trust established the K. J. Somaiya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology (KJSIEIT), the second Engineering College in the year 2001, at Ayurvihar campus, Sion.
The Somaiya Vidyavihar campus comprises 34 individual institutes dedicated in the streams of arts, sciences, management, engineering, medicine, humanities, philosophies and social sciences. 
Somaiya Vidyavihar also runs a few autonomous post-graduate courses, vocational training courses and high schools within its campus.

The college is constantly ranked among the best engineering colleges affiliated to the Mumbai University.
Accreditation by the National Board of Accreditation in 1997.
The K J Somaiya College of Engineering was ranked the 23rd best engineering college in India, in 2012, by the famous India Today journal.

The K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering is located within an extensive 65 acre campus in Vidyavihar. It is one of  the largest educational campuses of Mumbai.
The college can be easily reached from Ghatkopar station & Kurla Station.

It can be reached by BEST bus numbers 385, 353, 399, 322, 323, 433, 308, 336, 609.

Admissions  :
K J Somaiya College of Engineering ( KJSCE ), has 51% reserved seats for the minority Gujarati community. The admission for other seats is through CAP Rounds based on MH – CET Score.
1) Undergraduate Admissions – ( Bachelor of Engineering - B.E. ) :
K. J. Somaiya admits students for undergraduate programs based on their scores in the MH-CET (Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test).
2) Postgraduate Admissions – ( Master of Engineering - M.E. ) :
Admissions for postgraduate programs are through GATE Score (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) or sponsorship. At present K. J. Somaiya is the only engineering college which offers M.E. courses in CAD – CAM.

The College is housed in a Building having Ground +4 floors and new building having Ground +6 floors. Seminar halls ready with modern projection amenities and an auditorium having 450 seating capacity provide for important academic presentations and student functions.
Central Computing Facilities, Central and Departmental Libraries and well equipped Laboratories are the pride of this College. Amongst student amenities, an indoor Badminton Hall, Boys and Girls common rooms and a well maintained Canteen must be mentioned.

Magazine :
Kshitij is annual magazine of K J Somaiya College of Engineering. This magazine is an attempt to provide the students a platform to reveal their thoughts and hidden talents.
The choice of articles from student's consideration range from a very scholarly exploration of ideas in order to check student's intellectual curiosity, to a few techniques for aiding personality development and general issues.
Library :
KJSCE Library, The Library of K j Somaiya College has about 26000 Volumes; Text Books, Reference Books, Hand Books, Standards and Back-volumes. The periodical section is a vital source for academic research and the latest information. The College subscribes to diverse Journals / Periodicals including the on-line versions.
Presence of a 2000 CD’s and 9 E-Journal databases enriches the Library resources immensely. The Library facility is kept open from 9.a.m. to 9p.m. on all working days. During examinations extra reading facilities are also provided.
Festivals / College Events :
1) 'ABHIYANTRIKI' - The technical festival held in October. This is a medium for students to be innovative in Paper Presentation, Robotics Competition, Gaming Arenas, Project Competitions, debates and the like.
2) 'SYMPHONY' - Symphony, the Inter-College Cultural Festival of KJSCE held in January, has created its name and status among Engineering and Management institutes under Mumbai University for the last decade. Every year about 75 institutes and 5000 students take part in the program. The main aim is to promote, support and exhibit the talents of the students on a common platform.
