National Institute of Technology, Delhi is one of the ten newly set up NITs during the 11th Five Year Plan by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD). The first batch of students was admitted and academic activities of NIT Delhi were started in the year 2010-11.
History :
Since inception of NIT Delhi, for the first two years the academic activities were carried out at National Institute of Technology, Warangal, the mentor institute for NIT Delhi. The National Institute Of Technology Delhi, is a public engineering institution located in Delhi, India. It has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by an act of Parliament of India. It is one of the NITs along with other National Institute of Technology institutions in India.

NIT Delhi shares the campus with IIT Campus of Delhi.
Institute is located opposite to Dwarka District Court Centre and near Dwarka Sector 10 Metro Station
The Institute campus is about 19 km away from the Delhi Main Railway Station, 14 km from the New Delhi Railway Station, 21 km from the Inter-State Bus Terminal and 10 km from Delhi Airport.
Metro from Old Delhi and New Delhi railway stations, the most convenient transport is the Delhi Metro. Take Yellow line of Delhi Metro from Chandni Chowk Metro Station (near Old Delhi Railway Station) or New Delhi Metro Station going towards Huda City Center runs via Hauz Khas Metro Station, which is about 1 km from IIT main gate.
From the Metro station one can take an autorichshaw to IIT Campus; the typical fare is Rs. 50-60.

NIT Delhi started admitting students from the academic session 2010-11 with an intake of 30 students in each of the following branches of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programs -

Since inception of NIT Delhi, for the first two years the academic activities were carried out at NIT Warangal, the mentor institute for NIT Delhi. From the present academic year (2012-2013), Government of Delhi has provided provisional space at Integrated Institute of Technology, Delhi.
NIT Delhi started its academic activities at the provisional site with effect from June 2012. It is expected to carry on its activities at IIT Delhi campus till its permanent building comes up at an identified site in Delhi in next 2–3 years.
The college has a well equipped sports department with arrangements for several indoor games like Badminton, Table-Tennis, Carrom and Chess. Apart from indoor sports, there is a cricket pitch, one ground each for Football and Cricket, a Volleyball court and a cemented Basketball court.
N.I.T. Delhi provides well-furnished hostel facility to many of its outstation candidates.
