Vidyalankar Engineering College was founded in 1999 by Vidyalankar Dyanapeeth Trust to establish a degree engineering college. VIT shares the campus with Vidyalankar Polytechnic and Vidyalankar School of Information Technology.
 
History :
 
Prof. C. S. Deshpande the founder of Vidyalankar Dyanapeeth Trust started coaching students in 1960, in a single classroom in Dadar. He was pioneer in coaching Engineering students in Mumbai and started with Vidyalankar Engineering Classes. Vidyalankar Engineering Classes shifted to Dadar location in 'Pearl Center', in 1974.
 
After 40 years of coaching students, Vidyalankar Dyanapeeth Trust decided to expand by establishing the Vidyalankar Institute of technology. The institute has now been shifted to spacious Wadala Campus.

Vidyalankar Institute of Technology, a Degree Engineering College is located in Antop Hill, Wadala. The two  Important landmarks around the college include I-MAX Dome Theatre & Wadala Police Station. The college can be easily reached from Wadala Station & Dadar Station.

Admissions :
 
Vidyalankar Institute of Technology, ( VIT ) has no reserved seats for any minority community. The admission for seats are only through Common Admission Process ( CAP Rounds ) based on MH – CET Score.
 
1) Undergraduate Admissions – ( Bachelor of Engineering - B.E. ) :
 
Vidyalankar Institute of Technology admits students for undergraduate programs based on their scores in the MH-CET (Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test).
 
2) Postgraduate Admissions – ( Master of Engineering - M.E. ) :
 
Admissions for postgraduate programs are through GATE Score (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) or sponsorship. Vidyalankar College offers M.E. courses in Electronics & Tele - communication Engineering, Computer Engineering & I.T. ( Information Technology )  with Intake capacity of 18 students for all the three branch.

Student Societies @ Vidyalankar :
 
1) ETSA - The Electronics and Telecommunication Students’ Association, is an association formed by the students of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering to foster the growth of knowledge in the field amongst its students. The ETSA organizes many workshops, symposia and seminars to quench its members’ needs.
 
2) CESA - The Computer Engineering Students’ Association (CESA) is a collaboration of all the Computer engineering students of the college. It unites all the students to participate and contribute towards the activities organized by the first and second year students of the Computers engineering field.
 
College Campus :
 
Vidyalankar College’s Campus is spread over 11 acres in housing a flourishing green playground. The campus offers students a vibrant and attractive setting for their studies. Facilities on the campus include Computer Centre, Library, Wifi Campus, Student Union, Food court, Gift shop, Bank, Bus links to other parts of Mumbai.
 
The College has planned to have a Sports centre with a swimming pool. The Institute has hostel facilities at its Nerul, Navi Mumbai campus. The campus comprises 3 buildings, 2 gardens, a football field, a volleyball ground and a cricket pitch.

Magazine :
 
Expressions is the annual magazine published by Vidyalankar Institute of Technology in the month of April. The editing staff consists of students from all branches and includes freshers as well.
 
Library :
 
Vidyalankar College of Engineering has developed a Central Library with more than 450 sq m built up space and is stocked with relevant engineering books which is just about 17,211 non-books (CDs) and about 67 National and International Journals.
 
A separate Reading hall is created for general reading and an Open Access Reference section is provided for more serious work. The library also subscribes to all major international journals and magazines.
 
Festivals / College Events :
 
1) Annual Festivals
 
Vidyalankar Institute of Technology’s technical festival FERVOR is held in February every year.
 
Events include Robotics, Technical Paper Presentations, Debates, Quizzes, Open Software competitions, Stock Market Simulation competitions etc.
 
An intra-college cultural festival called VERVE is held in March every year. Some events like Dance Competitions, Fashion Show, Antakshri, Ad-Mad show, Press Conference and War of the DJs are held on an inter-collegiate level.
 
Every February, an inter-collegiate sports festival is held in the college campus, including both indoor and outdoor sports. The highlight of the festival is the S6 (Six a side - Six overs) cricket tournament in which more than 15 colleges participate
 
2) Friday Paath-shala
 
Friday Paath-shala is a platform created for students to indulge in their non academic passions & pursuits. This ranges from dance workshops to screening thought provoking movies and debates to musical jams where students bring their favorite musical instruments. The allotted time is every Friday between 4.30 pm to 6.30pm and the venue is the amphitheatre.
 
Vidyalankar Group of Educational Institute’s ‘Friday Paathshala’ earned recognition nationally by bagging a silver in the ‘college contact program of the year’ category at the 1st WOW Event and Experiential Awards.
 
‘Friday Paathshala’ is a non-academic interaction for engineering students in Vidyalankar Institute of Technology. ‘Friday Paathshala’ reaches out to more than 2000 students in 6 months and 24 sessions every academic year.
 
‘Friday Paathshala’ from being a single college activity has now extended out to all engineering colleges in Mumbai and have involved them in an annual S6 cricket tournament (6 a side, 6 over each).

Opinion / Review :
 
Infrastructure is awesome, all classrooms are air-conditioned , you get good quality food at cheap rates in the canteen. Teachers are very co-operative & experienced.
