National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya also recognized as NIT Meghalaya or NITM is one of the newly opened National Institutes of Technology located in Shillong, Meghalaya. NIT Meghalaya started functioning from 2010 in Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology ( SVNIT ) , Surat.
History :
The NITM was established with full financial support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development by nit act in 2010 for improvement and progress of the state region.
The institute at present is operating from shillong. The educational activities of the institute in Meghalaya started in Shillong at the Bijni Complex of the North Eastern Hill University in July, 2012.
NIT Meghalaya’s permanent campus is under construction near sohra (Cherrapunjee).

Location :
The nearest railway station is Guwahati Railway Station. From the railway station, one can travel by bus or shared taxi (Rs. 150/- to Rs. 300/- per passenger) to Shillong. It takes about 4 hours to reach Shillong.
Admissions :
The Institute admitted its first batch of B. Tech students in July, 2010 and the first two batches are carrying out their studies in the Mentor Institute, SVNIT Surat. The Institute shall start UG, PG and research programs such as B. Tech, M. Tech, Integrated M. Sc, Ph.D. etc. in broad range of engineering disciplines.
